About Me

Hello, I’m Ruben, from Totnes in the UK.

Before becoming an English teacher and content creator, I spent 17 years working as a chef in some of London’s top restaurants, in ski resorts in the French Alps, and on luxury mega-yachts around the world. My career at sea and love of adventure have taken me to more than 70 countries, where I have crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and explored some of the most iconic places on Earth.

My travels have included trekking to Everest Base Camp, spending 8 months living in Tahiti, experiencing 3 winters in the Caribbean, studying traditional sushi in Tokyo with a master chef, living 20 months in Vietnam, and visiting the Galápagos Islands, Kashmir, the pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu, and Chichen Itza. These experiences have shaped how I see the world and deepened my appreciation for language as a tool for connection.

Today, I balance teaching with hosting as an Airbnb Superhost and tending to my woodland in Devon. Outside of work, I enjoy running, chess, stoic philosophy, and exploring ideas in AI and blockchain technology.

Through English for Traveling, I share my passion for languages, travel, and culture, helping learners feel confident in real travel situations while also discovering new perspectives and opportunities.
